Then, we found the Halloween clearance area. It was all 70% off. (I got a cute Wilton candy mold for .59!)
Nathan found a bin full of Halloween Cookie House Kits. They were $2.99 and since we had no plans for this evening, I bought one for him.
It was his first attempt at decorating a cookie house. And, being 5 years old, he wasn't exactly patient waiting for me to mix the icing. Or waiting again for me to assemble the walls. Or waiting again for the icing to harden so the walls and roof wouldn't fall off.
Luckily, I was able to distract him by requesting a drawing of his house design. An architect can build a house, but it takes a designer to really add the sparkle! He had a great time figuring out where all the candies would go.
And finally......the Master at work!
The finished abode. (Yes, he designed an orange house with Candy Corn peaks and Jawbreaker polka dotted walls.)
Now he thinks he's going to eat it!
I did manage to keep him from taking a bite out of it. He got to eat the unused candy Orange Slices instead.
A good evening's worth of fun for under $3!
